Three PBC Baseball Teams Reach NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, IND – Three Peach Belt Conference baseball teams learned that they will compete for a national championship as the NCAA announced the tournament field on Sunday night. Georgia College, Columbus State and UNC Pembroke will represent the conference in the southeast regional beginning on Thursday, May 17, in Tigerville, S.C.  North Greenville is the top seed and will serve as host.

Georgia College is the #2 seed for the regional after capturing the PBC Tournament title earlier on Sunday and earning the league's automatic bid.  The Bobcats, ranked #6 in the nation, make their second straight regional appearance and fourth in the last five years.  GC won the regional in 2010 and made their only World Series appearance to date.   They are the first team since 1998 to win back-to-back PBC Tournaments.

Columbus State (40-12) picked up an at-large bid and will be the No. 4 seed in the Southeast Region. The Cougars will take on fifth-seeded UNC Pembroke in the opening round on Thursday. Columbus State is back in the postseason after a one-year absence and will make its 26th appearance in program history. Appleton has led the Cougars into the NCAA Tournament on 10 previous occasions, with three World Series appearances and the 2002 National Championship.CSU's last appearance in the Southeast Regional came in 2016, when the Cougars were the top overall seed and host. Columbus State went 0-2 in that postseason.

It is UNC Pembroke's second-straight appearance (third overall) in the NCAA postseason. The Braves were the No. 5 seed at last season's NCAA Southeast Regional in Mount Olive, and were the No. 3 seed in the 2011 tournament that was hosted by the Trojans as well.

Regional champions will advance to the double-elimination championship finals May 26-June 2 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. The finals will be hosted by the University of Mount Olive and the town of Cary, North Carolina.
