18 Peach Belt Conference Softball Players Named All-Region
18 Peach Belt Conference softball players were named All-Region as both the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and Daktronics released their Southeast Region teams. Six of those players were named first-team All-Conference by both organizations while four more received first-team laurels from one or the other. Each first-team honoree will now be eligible for the respective organizations’ All-America team.
North Georgia, the #1-ranked team in the nation and the only collegiate softball team with a perfect record, led all PBC schools with six honorees. Saints pitcher Sarah Phillips was named first-team by both the NFCA and Daktronics as well as the Daktrnoics region Pitcher of the Year. North Georgia’s Katherine Martin, Laura Voyles, Lauren Dykes and Leslee Smith were all named first-team All-Region twice, as was UNC Pembroke’s Jelena Shaw.
Currently the nation’s leader in wins at 41-0, Phillips picks up her second straight Southeast Region Pitcher of the Year award following back-to-back PBC Pitcher of the Year honors. She is only undefeated pitcher in the country with more than 10 decisions as the junior is leading top-ranked and unbeaten North Georgia into the NCAA Southeast Super Regionals this weekend. She has a 0.81 earned run average in 268.0 innings of work, and has recorded 263 strikeouts, while opponents are hitting .166 against the right-hander.
Other first-team players are Augusta State’s Sara DeMuth (NFCA), Armstrong Atlantic State’s Shelby Duff (NFCA), North Georgia’s Pilar Harden (Daktronics) and USC Aiken’s Toni Flessate (Daktronics).
The NFCA team is selected by the association membership while the Daktronics team is coordinated and voted on by region sports information directors.
