SLIPPERY ROCK, PA -- Both the Columbus State men's team and the Augusta State women's cross country team competed at the NCAA National Championships in Slippery Rock, PA., on Saturday. Unfortunately, neither team fared especially well as both finished last in their respective races.
The Augusta State women were making their first appearance at the national championship meet and may have been dealing with some nerves as they finished 24th. Jenafer Forward was the first Lady Jaguar across the line in 98th place, covering the 6k course in 24:01. Kara Kreutzer was next in 134th in 24:55 while Celia Kresser was 143rd in 25:13. Savannah Sutton ran the race in 25:23 while Lindsey Barber ran 26:49, Sophie Baconnet 27:12 and Marybeth Sardinia 27:22.
Clayton State's Allison Kreutzer, who set a PBC record with seven meet wins this year, ran as an individual after capturing the region title. The senior finished 41st in a time of 22:49.
On the men's side, the Columbus State Cougars suffered through the cold Pennsylvania countryside for a 24th place finish. John Neill was the first Cougar to finish the 10k course, running it in 34:00 for 123rd place. Roger Hagues was next in 139th in a time of 34:47 while Tim English was 145th in 35:00. Stephen Waynick ran 35:04 while Stewart Helton was 35:15, David Marley 35:23 and Phillip Burks 38:37.
Adams State won both the men's and women's national championships.
