Pine Mountain, GA – The Peach Belt Conference announced
the 2013 men’s golf All-Conference team at a banquet in Pine
Mountain, Ga., site of this year’s championships. USC
Aiken was the big winner on the night as Matt Atkins was named the
league’s Player of the Year and his coach, Mike Carlisle, was
tabbed the Coach of the Year. Flagler’s Spencer
Schindler and Montevallo’s Dalton Skinner were named the
co-Freshmen of the Year.
Atkins earns his second straight first-team All-Conference
accolade as well as the Player of the Year title. The senior
from Owensboro, Ky., has the best stroke average in the Peach Belt
at 73.00 with 10 rounds under par this year. He won the
Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate with rounds of 68-68-70 for
a four-under 206, the lowest 54-hole total by any player in the
Peach Belt this year. He also shot five rounds in the 60s,
including a low 66 at the Bobcat Invitational, one of six rounds of
66 fired in the PBC this season. Atkins continues the rich
tradition of golf excellence at USC Aiken, becoming the seventh
Pacer to win the award, the first since Scott Brown in 2006.
Spencer Schindler is the first Flagler Saint to be named a
men’s golf Freshman of the Year. The true freshman from
Elkton, Fla., shot a 67 in his first-ever collegiate round and then
went on to win his first tournament, firing a seven-under 135 at
the Anderson Invitational. He turned in another top-10
performance at the Southeastern Intercollegiate, shooting another
67 in the second round. He is currently eighth in the PBC
with a 74.13 stroke average.
Dalton Skinner played in all 21 rounds for the Montevallo
Falcons this year and was second on the team and in the top 20 in
the PBC with a 74.57 stroke average. The freshman from
Mountain Brook, Ala., won the Florida Tech Panther Invitational in
March, one of his three top-five finishes on the year. He was
the runner-up in his first collegiate tournament, shooting a 68 in
his first round and finishing three-under at the Full Moon
Invitational.
Now in his 23rd season as the coach of the USC Aiken
Pacers, Michael Carlisle has created one of the signature golf
programs in all of NCAA Division II. With three national
championships, Carlisle has the Pacers poised to make a run at a
fourth in 2013. USC Aiken is currently ranked #3 in the
nation, highest of any PBC school. The Pacers won the Kiawah
Island Invitational and finished second three more times, including
in two of their last three events heading into the PBC Tournament.
The Coach of the Year honor is the fourth in his career.
Below is the 2013 men’s golf All-Conference team as
