PBC Announces Men’s Soccer All-Conference Team

AUGUSTA, GA – The Peach Belt Conference has announced the spring 2021 men’s soccer All-Conference team. Lander swept all three major awards for the first time in program history as Tom Marriott was named the PBC Player of the Year, Marco Gueli the Freshman of the Year and Lee Squires the Coach of the Year. Additionally, Lander’s Jonah Miller was named the recipient of the PBC Elite 16 Award presented by EAB.

Player of the Year: Tom Marriott, Lander
  • A senior midfielder from Nottingham, England, who helped guide the Bearcats to a perfect 8-0 conference record this spring
  • Scored five goals with four assists for 14 total points; was tied for second on the team in goals and tied for the lead in assists and points
  • Tied for fifth in the PBC in goals and tied for fourth in assists; tied for third in the league in total pointsHad a goal and an assist in the same game in half of Lander’s contests this year
  • Becomes the seventh different Lander player to be named the PBC Player of the Year, the first since Adam Arthur in 2009

Freshman of the Year: Marco Gueli, Lander

  • A freshman forward from Calw, Germany, who played in all nine games for the Bearcats with eight starts
  • Was fourth on the team with four goals scored and was tied for the team high with four assistsTied for seventh in the PBC in goals, tied for fourth in assists and is seventh in the league in total points
  • Scored two game-winning goals this season including the lone score in a 1-0 win over Francis Marion and the decider in a 2-1 win at Young HarrisIs the sixth Lander men’s soccer player to be named the Freshman of the Year including the fifth in the last eight years

Coach of the Year: Lee Squires, Lander

  • Currently in his sixth season as Lander’s head coach, he claims his third PBC Coach of the Year honor
  • Led Lander to a perfect 8-0 conference record this spring to win their first regular-season championship since 2017
  • Ranked as high as #3 in the nation by United Soccer Coaches, Lander led the PBC in scoring offense with 3.00 goals per game and in scoring defense with just 0.67 goals allowed per game
  • His third Coach of the Year honor ties him with three others for second-most all-time in PBC history

Elite 16 Award presented by EAB: Jonah Miller, Lander

  • A sophomore from Charleston, S.C., he becomes the first Lander men’s soccer player to win this academic award, presented to the player competing in the championship with the highest cumulative GPA
  • Carries a perfect 4.00 GPA and was named to the Lander Dean’s list in the last four semesters, he has also helped Lander to win United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Awards the last two seasons
  • Played in three of Lander’s nine games this spring
