Men’s Soccer Player of the Week: Mikkel Goeling, Young Harris
Goeling scored five goals in YHC’s two wins last week as the team moved into a tie for second in the PBC standings. The sophomore midfielder from Copenhagen, Denmark, scored the first hat trick of his career as he led the Mountain Lions past Georgia Southwestern 3-2, it is the fourth hat trick in the PBC this year and tied for the most goals scored in a single game in the conference. He followed that up with two more goals in YHC’s 3-0 win over USC Aiken. Goeling moves into a tie for second in the Peach Belt in goals scored. He is also tied for second in the league in assists and leads the conference in total points.
Men’s Soccer Defender of the Week: Julien Sagnol, Lander
Sagnol led a Bearcat defensive unit to a shutout of Georgia Southwestern in their lone match last week. The sophomore from Saint Etienne, France, was a key part in keeping Hurricanes from even approaching the Lander goal, holding GSW to two total shots in the game, neither of which was on goal. He also contributed offensively with an assist on the second goal, his first of the season. Lander is currently second in the PBC in team goals allowed average and second in shutouts.
Men’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week: Tirso Trueba, Flagler
Trueba was tremendous in goal once again for the Saints as he played all 180 minutes over two games with only one score allowed in two conference wins. The sophomore from Puebla, Mexico, earned his third shutout of the season with three saves in a 3-0 win over USC Aiken. He followed that up with two more saves in a 4-1 win over North Georgia, the lone goal allowed coming on a penalty kick. Trueba has played more minutes in goal than any other PBC keeper and is third in the league in save percentage and saves per game and tied for fourth in shutouts.
