PBC Releases Softball Tournament Bracket

AUGUSTA, GA – The Peach Belt Conference has released the bracket for the 2022 Softball Tournament which begins this Friday in Greenwood, S.C. The top seven teams in the PBC standings advance to the single-elimination tournament which is being hosted by Lander University.

North Georgia won their eighth consecutive PBC regular-season championship over the weekend and will receive a bye in the first round of the PBC Tournament. The Nighthawks have also won the last seven PBC Tournaments and enter the 2022 event ranked #19 in the nation with a 40-15 overall record, 20-4 in conference play. UNG will play the winner of the 4-5 matchup on Saturday at 12 noon.

Columbus State is the second seed for the second time in the last three years. The Cougars swept USCA over the weekend to finish 17-7 in conference play, 28-23 overall. CSU will meet seventh-seeded Flagler at 7:30 on Friday night.

Lander hosts the PBC Tournament for the first time since 2002 with the games played at Doug Spears Field in the Jeff May Complex for the first time. The Bearcats are the #3 seed for the tournament, matching the best seed the program has ever had, last done in 1994. Lander finished 15-9 in league play, the most conference wins in program history. LU will host sixth-seeded USC Aiken at 2:30 pm on Friday.

Georgia Southwestern will be the #4 seed for the PBC Tournament, their highest in program history. The Hurricanes return to the tournament for the first time since 2019 where they reached the championship game as a seven seed. The 2022 team enters the postseason with a 33-20 overall mark, 14-10 in conference play and winners of six of their last eight. GSW will face fifth-seeded Young Harris on Friday at 5:00 pm.

The winner of the PBC Tournament will receive the PBC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
