Motes finished in the top 20 at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational on Friday. The sophomore from Rome, Ga., ran the 8k course in 25:43.7, finishing 20th in a field in which Augusta was the only non-Division I team. He averaged 5:10.5 per mile, finishing just over a minute out of the lead and 30 seconds out from a top 10. His 8k time is the fastest run in the Peach Belt so far this season and his efforts helped the Jaguars to a fifth-place finish in the nine-team event.
