Men’s Soccer Player of the Week: Kevin Rubaszewski, Lander
Rubaszewski found the net in both road games in Florida last week for the Bearcats, scoring three times in total. The sophomore midfielder from Geilenkirchen, Germany, started by drilling a free kick from just outside the box into the left upper 90 that cut the lead to 2-1 against #13 Palm Beach Atlantic. He followed that up with a pair of goals at Lynn. He scored the first goal f the game just after halftime and added a second less than 10 minutes later as the two teams would fight to a 3-3 tie. Rubaszewski is currently second in the PBC with four goals on the season; he is also second in the league in points.
Men’s Soccer Defender of the Week: Pieter Hamhuis, Young Harris
Hamhuis led a Young Harris defense that limited Carson-Newman to just five shots and handed the Eagles their first shutout of the season 1-0. The Mountain Lions were especially stingy in the second half, holding CN to just one shot in the second half. The game was scoreless until a YHC goal in the 86th minute. CN was held to just two shots on goal. Young Harris recorded their second shutout in three games this season and are currently second in the PBC with a 1.00 goals against average and tied for the league lead in shutouts.
Men’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week: Hazel Ley, North Georgia
Ley continues his solid start to the season, playing all 180 minutes in two games for the Nighthawks with just one goal allowed last week. The junior from Monterrey, Mexico, made eight saves as UNG beat Mount Olive 3-1. The lone goal allowed came on a penalty kick in the 89th minute. He followed that up with his first shutout of the season as he made three saves in a 3-0 win over Erskine. Ley continues to lead the Peach Belt with a 0.67 goals against average; he also leads the league in saves and is second in shutouts.
