Women’s Soccer Player of the Week: Megan Gettys, USC Aiken

Gettys scored both goals in USCA’s 2-1 win over Southern Wesleyan as the Pacers remain undefeated on the season. The freshman midfielder and forward from Mandeville, La., was held to one shot in a scoreless tie at Coker, but broke through against SWU. Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Gettys took the ball across the top of the box, drilling it into the left corner to tie the game with 30 minutes to play. She then won the game with 11:20 to play, finding an impossible angle from the side of the goal as she one-touched a pass from Avery List into the side netting. Getty is tied for the league lead in goals, goals per game and game-winning goals.

Women’s Soccer Defender of the Week: Bailey Vessell, North Georgia

Vesssell led a defensive unit that allowed only one goal in two games as the Nighthawks went 1-0-1. The junior from Fayetteville, Ga., helped keep North Greenville to just one goal after UNG had built a 4-0 lead in a 4-1 win, holding the Crusaders to five shots on goal. The UNG defense then kept #7 Lee scoreless for the first time since 2020, holding the Flames to eight shots in a 0-0 tie, the Nighthawks’ second clean sheet of the year. Vessell played all 180 minutes on the week as UNG moves into a tie for third in the PBC with a 0.50 team goals against average and a tie for second in shutouts.

Women’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week: Emily Worrell, USC Beaufort

Worrell extended her scoreless streak to 270 minutes as the Sand Sharks recorded their second and third shutouts of the season to improve to 3-0. The sophomore keeper from Keedysville, Md., played all 180 shutout minutes in the two wins last week, making two saves against Converse and another two against Erskine. USCB has not allowed a goal to be scored so far this season as Worrell has a league-leading three shutouts and perfect 0.00 goals against average.
