Clayton State's Rios, Iturria Named United Soccer Coaches All-Americans

KANSAS CITY, MO - Clayton State's Geo Rios and Alexis Iturria were named All-Americans by United Soccer Coaches on Thursday. Clayton State becomes only the fourth team in PBC history with two first-team All-Americans, something that has not been achieved by a conference school since 2018.

A native of Lawrenceville, Ga., Rios had a season for the record books as he broke the school record for the most career points, most career matches played, and most career matches started.  He earned his fourth-straight PBC First-Team All-Conference accolade and his third straight PBC Offensive Player of the Year honor.  Rios scored a team-second best 10 goals and added 12 assists with double-digit assist numbers for the third straight season.  In addition to these accomplishments, Rios was also one of five Lakers to earn College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District and D2CCA All-Southeast Region honors. The United Soccer Coaches All-America honor is his first; he has been named D2CCA All-American twice.

A native of Hampton, Ga., Iturria also had a great season as he earns his first All-America accolade. The Laker forward led the team with 13 goals and is tied with Rios for the team lead in assists with 12.  Iturria also led the team, the conference, and the nation with 103 shots.  His 103 shots are 24 more than anyone in Division II and he broke the single-season Laker school record.  In addition, he also led the team and the conference with 38 points. Iturria, thus far this season, was a D2CCA All-American, a first-team All-Conference selection for the second time in his career and one of four Lakers to be a D2CCA All-Southeast Region honoree.

This year’s All-Americans will be recognized for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Saturday, Jan, 13, 2024 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California, in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
