Softball Player of the Week: Jessica Owens, Georgia College & State University

Owens was an offensive powerhouse for the Bobcats, hitting .667 with a 1.333 slugging percentage and .810 on-base percentage. The junior first baseman went 8-for-12 in five games with half of her hits going for extra bases. She hit two home runs against North Greenville to open the week, driving in three, then had doubles in the first and third games against Young Harris, driving in two more. She drew nine walks on the week, including four in the second game against NGU, and scored five runs. Owens is currently second in the PBC in on-base percentage and walks, is eighth in batting average and ninth in slugging percentage.

Softball Pitcher of the Week: Savana Bradford, Georgia Southwestern

Bradford picked up two of the three GSW wins in a conference sweep of Flagler over the weekend. The sophomore from Colquitt, Ga., pitched eight total innings, allowing a grand total of two hits and no runs. She walked three and struck out seven. She entered the first game in the second inning with the bases loaded and no outs. She retired eight of the first nine batters she faced to get the win. She entered the second game to start the fourth inning with the score tied at two. After allowing a single, she retired nine in a row before another single in the seventh as GSW won 3-2. Bradford's nine wins are the most in the PBC and she is fourth in strikeouts and fifth in ERA and opponent batting average.

Softball Freshman of the Week: Gracie Hughes, Young Harris

Hughes had a monster week for the Mountain Lions, hitting .693 in four games with a double, two homers and seven RBIs. The first baseman from Woodstock, Ga., had a 1.231 slugging percentage for the week, hitting .545 in a three-game series against Georgia College She homered in the first and third games of that series with four RBIs in the opener and six in the three games. She had multiple hits in every game she played last week with four runs scored. Hughes is currently second on the team in home runs, batting average and slugging percentage and third in RBIs.
