Softball Player of the Week: Katelyn Wood, Georgia Southwestern

Wood led the Hurricanes to a perfect 5-0 week, hitting .667 with five doubles, a home run and 10 RBIs. the senior third baseman from Tallahassee, Fla., hit .800 in a three-game sweep of Young Harris, going 3-for-3 in the second game with a double, a home run and three RBIs. She had three more RBIs in the third game with two more doubles. For the week, she had a 1.200 slugging percentage, a .688 on-base percentage, scored five runs and had no errors in six chances a third base. Wood is currently ranked third in the PBC in total hits and RBIs, tied for second in doubles, fourth in slugging and sixth in batting average.

Softball Pitcher of the Week: Tybee Denton, North Georgia

Denton was nearly flawless in her two appearances last week for the #1 team in the nation, picking up a pair of victories over 6.2 innings of work with no runs allowed. The junior from Homer, Ga., pitched 2.2 innings of relief in a win over Lee, entering a tied game and allowing two hits and one walk while striking out three to get the victory. She got the start in the second game at Flagler, pitching four scoreless inning with three hits and one walk allowed while striking out five. Denton is one of two PBC pitchers (with teammate Delaney Heaberlin) that lead the PBC with a 10-0 record on the year. She is currently third in the PBC in opponent batting average, fourth in ERA, and seventh in stikeouts.

Softball Freshman of the Week: Sydney Lancaster, Georgia College & State University

Lancaster hit .556 in a three-game series against Lander. The shortstop from Woodstock, Ga., was 5-for-9 in the series including a 3-for-3 outing in the second game with a stolen base. She went 2-for-3 in the third game, scoring a run from the leadoff position. She also had no errors in 10 total chances at short. Lancaster is currently fifth in the PBC in stolen bases.
