Softball Player of the Week: Isabel Marcotte, Georgia Southwestern


Marcotte hit four home runs in five games last week as the Hurricanes went 4-1 including a conference sweep. The sophomore first baseman from Wichita, Kansas, hit .462 with a 1.385 slugging percentage and 1.885 OPS. She opened with a 1-for-2 outing against Auburn-Montgomery in game one, 2-for-4 in game two with a home run in the second game and four total RBIs. In a three-game sweep of Augusta, she hit two home runs in the opener with three RBIs. She homered again in the third game, driving in two more. She scored six runs, drew two walks for a .500 on-base percentage and made no errors in 43 chances at first, helping turn two double plays. Marcotte is tied for sixth in the PBC in home runs.

Softball Pitcher of the Week: Delaney Heaberlin, North Georgia

Heaberlin pitched 10 total innings in two starts last week, allowing a grand total of one hit and no runs. The junior righty from Eustis, Fla., got the start and pitched three innings against Shorter, allowing no hits and one walk while striking out two. The one walk she issued in the top of the third was the only Shorter baserunner she allowed, setting down all other batters in order. She then went the distance in a 4-0 win over USC Aiken, scattering four hits and allowing one walk while striking out four. She set down the first seven Pacers she faced in order and also retired the side in order in the fourth and the sixth. Heaberlin leads the PBC with a 0.88 and is also fifth in opponent batting average.

Softball Freshman of the Week: Emily Allen, Lander

Allen had a career week as the freshman helped Lander to a 5-0 record and their second-straight PBC series sweep. In game one against North Greenville on Wednesday, the outfielder from Mount Dora, Fla., finished 2-2 with a double, run scored, and a career-high four runs driven in. On Saturday, in the first game against USC Beaufort, she went 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. In the final game of the series, she hit her first career home run as she finished 3-3 and was a double shy of hitting for the cycle while driving in two runs and scoring two in the 8-0 win. For the week, Allen hit .583 (7-12) with a double, triple, home run, seven runs scored and eight RBIs, and an OPS of 1.750. She is currently fifth in the Peach Belt in on-base percentage.
