Softball Player of the Week: Kenzie Bayer, Columbus State
Bayer went 5-for-9 with seven RBIs, three home runs, three runs scored and one double in the Cougars' doubleheader sweep over No. 1 ranked North Georgia on Sunday, April 9. In game one, the junior first baseman from Marbury, Ala., was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run. In the nightcap, the junior was 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double, five RBIs and three runs scored. Bayer is third in the PBC in slugging (.830) and RBIs (43) and is tied for second in home runs (13).
Softball Pitcher of the Week: Hannah Rose Corbin, Columbus State
Corbin made two appearances against #1 North Georgia, getting a complete-game win in the opener and two shutout innings in the second. The senior from Clanton, Ala., gave up three runs on four hits in going the distance to get the win, striking out six.n She retired the side in order in the sixth with a one run lead and set down six of the final seven batters she faced. She closed out the second game with two innings of relief, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out three. Corbin leads the PBC and is ranked 11th in NCAA Division II in strikeouts; she also leads the conference in wins, is third in innings pitched and seventh in ERA.
Softball Freshman of the Week: Emily Allen, Lander
Allen had an outstanding week for Lander, helping the Bearcats take two out of three games from Flagler over the weekend. In game one, the freshman catcher and designated player went 3-4 with a double and three RBIs in an 11-5 win. In game two, she was 3-4 again with three RBIs and a triple. Her triple came in the top of the seventh that drove in two runs and gave Lander their first lead of the game. The Bearcats went on to win 7-5. For the week, Allen hit .583 (7-12) with a double, triple, four runs scored, and six RBIs, with a 1.416 OPS. She is currently ninth in the PBC in batting average.
