Softball Player of the Week: Brooke Miller, Columbus State
Miller hit .538 with a 1.692 slugging percentage in seven games as the Cougars went 6-1. The junior second baseman from Suwanee, Ga., tagged four home runs on the week and had three games with four RBIs. She had two homers in the second game against Georgia Southwestern, driving in four. She hit a triple and drove in four in the opener against USC Beaufort and had a grand slam in the third game. She drew seven walks for a .714 on-base percentage, scored seven runs, stole a base and made no errors in 12 chances at second. Miller is currently ranked fifth in the PBC in slugging percentage, is tied for fifth in RBIs and is eighth in home runs.
Softball Pitcher of the Week: Tybee Denton, North Georgia
Denton picked up three more wins to improve to 15-0 on the season. The junior from Homer, Ga., pitched 20 innings in total with one earned run allowed and six strikeouts. She pitched nine innings against Auburn-Montgomery with no earned runs allowed and four hits as UNG won 4-3 in extras. She tossed a complete-game two-hit shutout in the opener at Georgia College & State University, allowing no walks and striking out four. She then pitched four innings to get the win in the third game, allowing the one earned run on three hits. Denton is currently second in the PBC in ERA, third in opponent batting average, tied for sixth in strikeouts and tied for second in wins.
Softball Freshman of the Week: Sydney Blair, North Georgia
Blair earns her second weekly award of the season after collecting three more hits in last week's action the center fielder from Peachtree City, Ga., opened with a double as UNG finished their series against Columbus State last Monday, driving in a run. She singled and scored in the opener against Auburn Montgomery and singled in the opener against Georgia College. She drew a pair of walks on the week and had a stolen base. Blair is currently third in the PBC with a .448 batting average; she is also fifth in on-base percentage and eighth in runs scored.
