AUGUSTA, GA -- With the conclusion of the regular-season, the Peach Belt Conference has released the bracket and schedule for the 2023 softball tournament. Play will begin this Friday, April 28, with the top eight teams in the league standings advancing to tournament play.
The PBC will play a new tournament format for 2023. The opening weekend of the event will be played at two sites and hosted by #1-seed Columbus State and #2-seed North Georgia. The 4,5 and 8 seeds will play at CSU with the 2,3 and 7 seeds at UNG. Each site will be a four-team double-elimination bracket with two games on Friday, three on Saturday and one or two on Sunday. The remaining teams from each site will then meet for a best-of-three championship series May 5-6. This format mirrors the NCAA regional format.
Columbus State is the #1 seed in the tournament for the first time since 2007. The Cougars and North Georgia both finished tied atop the PBC standings with 24-3 conference records. Columbus State takes the #1 seed in a tiebreaker, having beaten the Nighthawks in two of three games during the regular season.
Georgia Southwestern is the #3 seed, their highest PBC tournament seeding ever. Lander is the #4 with Flagler at #5, Georgia College & State University #6, USC Aiken #7 and Young Harris #8. USCA and YHC were tied at 10-17 in conference play, but the Pacers take the seed after beating the Mountain Lions in two of three.
