DAHLONEGA- Tim Wahlborg strikes the game winning goal just 1 minute and 25 seconds into overtime to secure the comback victory for the Saints vs North Georgia in the PBC Tournament Championship on Saturday in Dahlonega.
The Saints claimed their second consecutive PBC Tournament Title, their fourth overall. Flagler continue a winning streak from last season, winning six PBC Tournament matches in a row. This streak includes two PBC Tournament titles. Flagler has faced North Georgia five times in PBC Tournament history, and have a 5-0 record over the Nighthawks in post-season play.
The PBC Championship matchup was a close game from beginning to end. The Nighthawks took the lead in the 31st minute with a stunning strike from Jorge Sandoval. The Saints tied the game just four minutes later, with Tim Wahlborg knocking a loose ball around the six yard box into the back of the net. The game remained tied one a piece throughout the remainder of regulation, with both Aleksa Lukic (five saves) and Ryan Rivas (four saves) coming up with big saves for their teams. Both teams saw opportunities late in the game, but failed to convert. The score remained 1-1 following 90:00 minutes of play, and the PBC Championship headed to overtime.
The Saints didn't need much time added and just one minute into overtime, defender Daniel Becerra takes the ball from outside the 18 and begins a solo run toward the middle of the field. A quick one-two saw Becerra receive the ball again and continue his run toward the North Georgia goal. Becerra passed the ball outside to Luke Williams, who threaded a ball into Tim Wahlborg inside the box. Wahlborg took a quick touch and placed the ball into the bottom left corner to secure the victory for Flagler. Wahlborg's two goals saw him deservedly named PBC Tournament MVP.
Flagler outshot North Georgia 13-12, with the only notable difference between the two being the game winning goal in overtime.
