HILTON HEAD, SC -- The Flagler College Saints were named the winners of the Peach Belt Conference David R. Brunk Commissioner's Cup on Tuesday night at the league's annual dinner. The award was renamed for the retiring PBC commissioner just prior to the presentation.
Flagler wins the award for the third time in program history. The first came in the 2018-19 season and the second in 2020-21.
The Brunk Cup is presented annually to the best overall athletic department based on regular-season standings and select championships results from cross country, golf and track & field. Associate members are not reflected in regular season or championship point totals. Flagler earned 98.5 points of a possible 126, a .782 rating.
The Saints were competitive across the board in 2024-25, winning regular-season championships in women's cross country and men's tennis and were co-champions in women's tennis. They also received the maximum points for men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field. Flagler was second in men's cross country, volleyball, men's soccer (tie) and softball (tie).
North Georgia was second in the Cup standings with a .771 rating, just .011 behind Flagler, the closest margin in the Cup standings since North Florida edged Kennesaw State by .006 in 2004. The Nighthawks captured conference titles in women's basketball and softball and were co-champions in baseball.
Columbus State was third, their 20th straight top-three finish with titles in women's soccer and men's basketball.
The PBC Commissioner's Cup is determined by calculating the number of points possible to each school, given the number of sports they participate in, divided by the number of points earned during the year. Points are determined by placement in the final regular-season standings in each PBC championship sport except cross country, golf and track & field, which points are decided based off placement in their respective PBC Championship.
The renaming of the award to the David R. Brunk Commissioner's Cup was announced during Tuesday's dinner. Dr. Cathy Cox, president of Georgia College & State University and chair of the PBC Executive Committee, announced the honor which was enacted by the PBC Board of Directors, comprised of the presidents and chancellors of the 10 PBC member institutions.
The award will forever be named for Brunk, who will end his 18-year term as the commissioner of the Peach Belt on June 30.
