SURPRISE, Ariz. - No. 4 (ITA Division II Top 50) and six-seeded Flagler College defeated No. 27 ranked and No. 11-seed, Queens College (New York) 4-0 this afternoon to advance to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division II National Championship at the Surprise Tennis & Raquet Complex.
Flagler earned its 21st win and 14th win over a nationally ranked opponent this year. The quarterfinal round of the tournament will see Flagler face the third-seed and No. 12-ranked Lubbock Christian University tomorrow at 12 p.m.
Doubles saw both courts finish their matches 6-1. Starting off with the first win was Aniss Rafiq and Oliver Hradilek over Tim Andersson and Jamie Foix Sotos on court three. No. 30 Simon Malis and Ilian Borlee continued their now 11 match win streak as they defeated Samuel Linck and Said Akbarov on court one.
Singles play saw the domination continue as four of the six sets were won 6-1. No. 17 Malis took down Akbarov on court one as he won 6-3 and 6-1. No. 73 Aly El Rafie found his first win on the day, defeating Tim Andersson in two 6-1 sets. The match clinch came from No. 35 Rafiq. The sophomore defeated Adam Laur 6-3 and 6-1 on court two.
