SURPRISE, AZ – The Columbus State women's tennis team, ranked No. 8 in the most recent ITA Poll and seeded ninth in the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship, suffered a 4-1 loss in the Quarterfinals to top-seeded and seventh-ranked Mississippi College on Wednesday night from the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The doubles point came down to the wire as Columbus State's No. 2 duo of senior Nikoline Gullacksen and junior Monika Temkova won 6-2 before Mississippi College won on court three.
- CSU's all-conference tandem of senior Laura Pesickova and freshman Isabell Ek responded with a 6-4 triumph over the nation's fourth-ranked doubles team from MC in the top doubles flight to give Columbus State an early 1-0 match lead.
- Mississippi College's first point of the evening came via a win at No. 5 singles to even the match score at one point apiece.
- The Choctaws collected two more points on courts two and four as the 28th and 64th-ranked singles players, respectively, in Rocio Martinez Azcarraga and Anna Hudson, put MC ahead 3-1.
- Mississippi College's match-clinching point came via a straight-set win on court one to move the Choctaws onto the NCAA Semifinal round. The singles showdown featured a 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 battle between CSU's Nikoline Gullacksen, ranked 13th overall, and MC's Emily Buchanan, ranked fourth in the country.
- Columbus State ends the 2026 season 21-5 overall, advancing to the Quarterfinal Round of the NCAA National Championships for the 11th time in program history.
