Logan Gibson Named Inaugural Director of Strength and Conditioning

AMERICUS, Ga. – Georgia Southwestern State University Director of Athletics Mike Leeder has announced the hiring of Logan Gibson as the Hurricanes' first Director of Strength and Conditioning.

The newly created position reflects Georgia Southwestern's continued commitment to providing student-athletes with the resources and support necessary to compete at the highest level while enhancing overall athletic performance, injury prevention and long-term development.

"We are excited to welcome Logan to the Hurricane family," said Leeder. "His experience at multiple levels of collegiate athletics, including Division I programs, gives him a strong foundation to build a comprehensive strength and conditioning program that will positively impact every one of our student-athletes. Logan's passion for athlete development, attention to detail and collaborative approach made him an outstanding fit for this role."

Gibson arrives at GSW after serving as Associate Director of Strength and Conditioning at the University of Detroit Mercy, where he directed performance programming for five NCAA Division I programs, including men's and women's soccer, women's lacrosse, softball and track and field throws. He worked with more than 150 student-athletes while designing and implementing annual training plans that integrated strength development, speed and agility training, conditioning and mobility work.

In addition to overseeing performance programming, Gibson collaborated closely with athletic trainers, team physicians and coaches to develop return-to-play protocols and injury mitigation strategies. He also utilized performance monitoring technologies, including GPS tracking, velocity-based training systems and timing equipment to evaluate athlete development and training loads.

"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join Georgia Southwestern and help build its first strength and conditioning department," Gibson said. "The vision for athletics and commitment to student-athlete success immediately stood out to me throughout the process. I look forward to working with every program, building strong relationships with our coaches and student-athletes, and creating an environment that promotes performance, accountability and personal growth."

Before his time at Detroit Mercy, Gibson served as Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Lawrence Technological University, where he oversaw performance programming for 10 varsity programs and more than 300 student-athletes. He developed departmental training policies, managed facility operations and scheduling, and implemented corrective exercise strategies in conjunction with athletic training staff.

Gibson also gained Division I experience at Purdue University, assisting with strength and conditioning efforts for the Boilermakers' men's basketball program. His responsibilities included supporting performance programming, return-to-sport progressions and athlete monitoring initiatives.

A native of Indiana, Gibson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from the University of Southern Indiana in 2020. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Ethical Leadership from the University of Detroit Mercy.

Gibson will oversee strength and conditioning services for all GSW athletic programs and will begin his duties July 6.
