PBC Announces Cross Country, Soccer, Volleyball Players of the Week

The Peach Belt Conference has released Players of the Week for cross country, soccer and volleyball. GCSU's Shipley Smith and Erin O'Brien secure cross country Runners of the Week. North Georgia's Isaac Calderon, Lander's Declan Okwu and Flagler's Ryan Rivas take home the men's soccer honors. North Georgia's Grace McGill, Lander's Reagan Hardy and Georgia Southwestern's Hannah Garrett secure the women's soccer honors. Flagler's Marley Middlebrooks and Jillian Young alongisde Middle Georgia's Trinity Mitchell claim the volleyball honors. This is Middlebrooks and Young's second weekly honor in a row, as the Saints currently sit on an eight-game win streak. 

CROSS COUNTRY
Men’s Runner of the Week
Shipley Smith, GCSU
Junior
  • Competed at the Queen City Invitational
  • Smith led GCSU in the 8K, crossing in 26:06.0. 
  • Helped the Bobcats to a 9th place finish out of 25 teams
  • Smith’s result is the fastest 8K time in the PBC this season
Women’s Runner of the Week
Erin O’Brien, GCSU
Sophomore
  • Competed at the Queen City Invitational
  • O’Brien led GCSU in the 5K, with a time of 18:49.8 
  • Helped the Bobcats to an 8th place finish out of 27 teams
  • O’Brien’s result is the second fastest 5K time in the PBC this season, and the 6th fastest time in GCSU program history


MEN’S SOCCER
Player of the Week
Isaac Calderon, North Georgia
Senior, Midfielder
  • Scored 3 goals, adding 1 assist as the Nighthawks remain undefeated on the season
  • Scored two goals and assisted the third in a 3-3 tie with Lander
  • Calderon’s first goal of the game was a stunning bicycle kick that was placed #5 on the SportsCenter Top 10
  • Netted the opening goal in a 2-0 victory over USCA
  • Calderon is tied for the most goals in the PBC on the season with 6, averaging 0.857 per game and leads the PBC in points with 14, averaging 2.00 per game and game winning goals with 2
Defensive Player of the Week
Declan Okwu, Lander
Sophomore, Defender
  • Helped the Bearcats to a 1-0-1 week to open conference play undefeated
  • Okwu scored the game-tying goal with 13 seconds left as Lander picked up a 3-3 draw at No. 2 North Georgia on Wednesday. 
  • He followed that up by leading the Bearcat defense to a 2-0 shutout of Georgia Southwestern Saturday, allowing only four shots on target. 
  • Okwu played 90 minutes against the Nighthawks and 72 against the Hurricanes.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Ryan Rivas, Flagler
Senior, Goalkeeper
  • Led Flagler to a 2-0 week to open PBC play with one clean sheet
  • Tied the school record (21) set back in 1995 with a shutout at Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday
  • Notched a season-high seven saves against Clayton State over the weekend
  • Rivas leads the PBC in save percentage with .857 and goals against average with 0.67


WOMEN’S SOCCER
Player of the Week
Grace McGill, North Georgia
Senior, Forward
  • Tallied 2 goals and 3 assists as North Georgia went 2-0 on the week
  • Recorded 2 assists in the 6-0 victory over Tusculum in 35 minutes of action
  • Recorded 2 goals and an assist in the Nighthawks comeback victory over USCB to open conference play
  • McGill is leading the PBC in assists (5), averaging 1.00 per game, points (15), averaging 3.00 per game and is tied for most goals in the PBC (5), averaging 1.00 per game 
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Reagan Hardy, Lander
Senior, Defender
  • Led the Lander defense to another 1-0 week, as the Bearcats have yet to concede a goal in the 2026 season
  • Hardy provided the primary assist on Lander's goal in a 1-0 road victory over #7 Lenoir-Rhyne
  • Hardy and her defensive unit held the Bears to just 2 shots on goal, as she played the full 90 minutes 
 
Goalkeeper of the Week
Hannah Garrett, Georgia Southwestern
Senior, Goalkeeper
  • Made 18 saves in two road matches, helping GSW secure two results and remain undefeated on the week
  • Made 7 saves with a 0.778 save percentage in the 2-2 tie vs Valdosta State
  • Made 11 saves with a 0.917 save percentage in the 1-1 tie vs Columbus State to open PBC play
  • Garrett’s performances helped the Lady Hurricanes to the program’s first ever results vs both VSU and CSU in her first starts of the season

 
VOLLEYBALL
Player of the Week
Marley Middlebrooks, Flagler
Junior, Outside Hitter
  • Helped lead her team to a 3-0 record over the weekend at the GSC-PBC Crossover.
  • She totaled 53 kills, averaging 4.07 kills per set and 45 digs for 3.46 digs per set with a .219 hitting percentage. Accomplished seven double-doubles on the season including three in a row this weekend.
  • In the Saints five set win against Mississippi Christian, she had 20 kills and 17 digs.
  • She had 10 kills and 10 digs with a .350 hitting percentage vs Montevallo
  • On the last day, in the game against Alabama-Huntsville, she had 23 kills, two assists, four blocks and 18 digs.
  • Leads the PBC in points (198), total kills (174), and kills per set (4.05).
  • She is also No. 9 in the nation for total kills.
Defensive Player of the Week
Trinity Mitchell, Middle Georgia
Senior, Libero
  • Helped the Knights to a 2-1 week as they captured their first two wins of the season at the Warhawk Invitational
  • Recorded 26 digs in the 3-1 win over AUM
  • Added 15 digs in the loss to Ark.-Fort Smith, and 10 digs in the 3-0 victory over Albany State
  • Added 10 assists during the weekend and a pair of service aces while averaging 5.10 digs per set across the weekend. 
Setter of the Week
Jillian Young, Flagler
Freshman, Setter
  • Commanded the offense to an undefeated weekend at the GSC-PBC Crossover.
  • Totaled 93 assists while averaging 7.75 assists per set.
  • Tailed 20 assists, one ace and three digs in the win against Mississippi Christian.
  • In the sweep against Montevallo, she had 23 assists, two aces and five digs.
  • In the five-set match-up with UAH, she totaled 50 assists, two kills, one ace and nine digs.
  • She leads the PBC in assists (361/8.80 per set)
