HILTON HEAD, SC -- With another strong run across the majority of their sponsored sports, the Armstrong State University athletic department won their fourth straight PBC Commissioner’s Cup which was presented at the league’s annual meetings on Tuesday night. The four straight honors is tied for the second-longest consecutive streak in PBC history along with USC Upstate, who won the first four Commissioner’s Cups from 1991 to 1995. North Florida holds the mark for consecutive wins with five from 1999 to 2004.
The 2014-15 season produced three more conference champions for the Pirates. The volleyball team and women’s tennis team won their regular season outright while the men’s tennis team was a co-champion along with Lander. Additionally, Pirate teams finished in the top three in women’s soccer, softball and baseball. Armstrong accumulated 97 points out of the maximum 131 available to them, a .7405 percentage.
Columbus State finished second in the standings at .6634 after winning titles in men’s cross country, women’s soccer and women’s basketball. North Georgia was third after winning both the baseball and softball regular-season championships while Georgia Regents came in fourth, their highest finish since 1993.
The PBC Commissioner’s Cup is determined by calculating the number of points possible to each school, given the number of sports they participate in, divided by the number of points earned during the year. Points are determined by placement in the final regular-season standings in each of the PBC’s 15 championship sports.
