Brett Simpson, Lander University

Simpson was a key part of the Lander men’s tennis dynasty and won four straight national championships. A part of the team as they transitioned from the NAIA into NCAA Division II in Peach Belt from 1991-94,  he was inducted into the Lander Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002.

A native of Sydney, Australia, he joined Lander as they finished their NAIA days with a pair of national titles and helped the Bearcats to the first two of their eight consecutive national championships in 1993 and 1994.  Named the PBC Player of the Year in 1994, he was a three-time All-American and won the 1994 NCAA Division II doubles national championship.

Simpson was the Rolex Southeastern Regional champion in 1993 and reached the championship match in the Small College National Finals that year.  He was also named an Academic All-American in 1993. 

Simpson is still associated with Lander tennis, serving as the head men’s and women’s coach since 2005. He lives in Greenwood with his wife and son.
