NCAA Women's Soccer: Lincoln Memorial Ends UNCP's Run

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.– Rachel Taylor found the back of the net just two minutes into play Lincoln Memorial broke a 1-1 tie on a header from Ermelinda Pantaleao later in the half to give Lincoln Memorial more than enough offense to top the UNC Pembroke soccer team, 3-1, on Friday afternoon in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
 
UNCP (14-5-1) finished the season with 14 or more wins for the just the fourth time in the 19-year history of the program, and fueled that win total with a school-record eight road victories. The Railsplitters (17-5-0) advance through to Sunday where they will face the winner of Friday evening's matchup between top-seeded Flagler and eighth-seeded Catawba.
 

SCORING SUMMARY
2' Rachel Taylor scored the first goal of the game off a rebound shot from Itzel Ballesteros who was credited with the assist.
29' Bayley Dawson played a ball in the air to Rilee Seering who was able to head it in the goal to knot the score at one apiece.
33' Lincoln Memorial used a corner kick that culminated with a finish from Ermelinda Pantaleao who headed it into the back of the net. Itzel Ballesteros picked up her second assist of the contest.
76' Itzel Ballesteros continued to produce for Lincoln Memorial's offense with her 10th goal of the season. Daisy Drake earned the assist.

 

TOP BRAVES
+ Rilee Seering's first-half score marked her 10th goal of the season. It is the first time since 2014 (Rae-Shawna Campbell) that a UNCP player has finished with a double-digit goal output.
+ Bayley Dawson logged her second assist of the year, but her first since logging an assist in the season opener with Belmont Abbey.
+ Junior Paula Valbuena attempted four shots on the afternoon. It is the 13th time this season that Valbuena has turned in multiple shots.

 

NOTABLES
+ The Braves were outshot 11-8, including a 7-2 disadvantage in the shots on goal category.
+ Friday's contest marked the Black & Gold's fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament. UNCP made previous appearances in the NCAA postseason in 2008, 2010 and 2017.
