Carson-Newman downs Flagler, 3-1

WINGATE, N.C. – Karlie Redfern's 21-kill, 21-dig performance was not enough as No. 7 seed Flagler College had its season come to an end as No. 3 seed Carson-Newman University advanced with a 3-1 (25-19, 25-22, 21-25, 25-23) victory in the semifinal round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Thursday evening at Cuddy Arena.

Carson-Newman (27-7) will play in tomorrow's regional final against the winner of the Augusta-Wingate match. Flagler finishes the season with a 24-9 record, but won 16-of-its-last-19 matches.

Megan Oldenburger led the Eagles with 17 kills and 16 digs. Marnie Streeter added 11 kills, 18 digs, and four aces. Erin Edwards hit .353 as she had 14 kills and just two errors on 34 swings. Elena Vasquez tallied 26 assists while Morgan Ballard led the defense with a match-high 28 digs. Kaina Roehrkasse chipped in with seven kills and six total blocks.   

Rebekah Machovec finished with 10 kills, eight digs, and three block assists for the Saints. Kayla Norellli closed out her fantastic career with a team-high 22 digs to give her an even 2100, which is good for second all-time at Flagler. Kennedy Muff recorded a double-double with 37 assists and 13 digs.
