Five PBC Volleyball Players Named D2CCA All-Region

WINGATE, N.C. – Five Peach Belt Conference volleyball players have been named All-Region by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.  Four of those players were named first-team All-Region and are now eligible for All-America consideration.  USC Aiken's Christine Carroll and Rebecca Martinez joined Georgia College's Taylor Svehla and Lander's Kaitlyn Krafka on the first team. Flagler's Karlie Redfern was named to the second team.

Carroll, the PBC Player of the Year (along with Taylor Svehla) and first-team all-league honoree, was a force for the Pacers all season, finishing first in the PBC with 4.7 points per set, putting her in the top 20 nationally in Division II. She was also first with a .335 hitting percentage, second overall in kills per set (3.98) and third in solo blocks (24).

Carroll, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, was in the top five for blocks per set (0.91) and overall points (377.5). She was fourth in overall points in league play (193.0) and second in points per set (4.6) against conference foes.

Carroll posted a career-best 19 kills in the win over Spring Hill before besting it with 20 in the victory at Francis Marion. She had a career-high six blocks on two occasions and posted a career-best eight digs in the victory over Georgia College in the regular-season finale. Fifteen times she hit over .300, including a sizzling .696 with 16 kills in 23 attacks in the victory over Southern Wesleyan. Carroll reached double figures for kills in 22 matches.

Carroll is on the USC Aiken career list for solo blocks.

Martinez was the PBC Libero of the Year and a first-team all-conference selection for the second consecutive season.

She leads the nation in digs per set (8.30). The Wellington, Fla., native garnered 8.02 digs per frame in league play, which is the highest per-set average in PBC history. Martinez led the PBC in total digs (689) and digs in conference action (337).

She posted a career-high in the neutral-site victory over Spring Hill with 43. Martinez added 42 against West Alabama and 40 in the win over Georgia College. She reached 30 digs 10 times and registered at least 20 digs on 21 occasions.

Martinez currently stands in second place in school history for career digs with 1,823. The reigning second-team All-American is ninth in PBC overall history for career digs and is fifth in the league's rally-scoring era.

Svehla was named the PBC co-Player of the Year along with Carroll, led Georgia College and is third in the Peach Belt with 362 kills this season.  The senior middle blocker from Cumming, Ga., also leads the league in total blocks and is second in blocks per set and fourth in hitting percentage. The 2015 PBC co-Freshman of the Year, she is named to the D2CCA All-Region team for the second consecutive season, the first on the first team.

Krafka, a 5-10 freshman outside hitter from Kyle, Texas, leads the Peach Belt Conference in kills (429), kills per set (4.25), total attacks (1,246) and points (467.0), while ranking second in points per set (4.6) and eighth in digs (337) and digs per set (3.34).

Krafka is the third Bearcat in four seasons to be named to the D2CCA All-Southeast Region team, joining second-team selections Halle Dotson and Julia Ferreira-Alves.

The Harrisburg, North Carolina native led the team with 365 kills, 3.65 kills per set, and was second in digs with 284. She is second in the conference in kills and total attacks, and third in kills per set. Redfern recorded a career-high 23 kills vs. Georgia College and 20 digs twice (at Lander and at Georgia College).
