Flagler’s Ella Stromfelt posts top-15 finish and Saints place fifth

LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 6 (Golfstat Division II relative ranking) Flagler College women's golf team moved up two spots to finish in fifth place at the 54-hole Lady Moc Classic on Monday. The Saints shot a 39-over par 903 (304-299-3000) at the Grasslands Golf and Country Club (par 72; 6,085 yards).

Ella Stromfelt turned in a career-best 54-hole score of 224 (+8) and finished in a tie for 15th place. She had birdies on the par-5 second hole and the par-3 10th hole. Stromfelt also made 12 pars to finish the final round with a 3-over 75.   

Lynn University shot a 292 as a team today and moved into first place with a 16-over 880. No. 3 Limestone University finished one stroke behind with an 881. No. 14 Anderson University (897) followed in third place while Florida Southern College (899) finished in fourth. 

Earning medalist honors was Alice Gotbring of Barry University who finished with a 4-under 212 to top the 62-woman field. She won by three strokes thanks to a 4-under 68 in the final round. The only other golfer to break par was Jessica Rathbone of Anderson who shot a 1-under 215.

Sophie Wheeler and Kim Jakobs finished in a tie for 26th place with a 13-over 229. Anna Asphamn, playing as an individual, had the lowest round for and of the Flagler golfers with a 1-under 71, which put her in a tie for 32nd place at +14. Bella Petrone finished right behind her in a tie for 34th place at +15. Marietta Ruhl rounded out the team at +17.

Up next for the Saints is the Barry Invitational March 22-23 at Miami Lakes, Florida.

Columbus State 8th, Lander 10th at Battle at Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Columbus State University women's golf team finished in eighth place in the Battle at Hilton Head after turning in a 330 over the final round on Tuesday. The two-day event was held at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort. Lander finished in 10th.

The Lady Cougars nearly matched their score from Monday to post a 36-hole score of 659. Carson Newman University (629) held off Lenoir-Rhyne University by one stroke to collect the tournament title. Jenna Nagy of Belmont Abbey was the individual medalist after firing a 2-over 150.

For the second consecutive day, Victoria Libaak led the way for the Lady Cougars with a 6-over 156. The fourth-year junior was just 3-over for the round until a bumpy close upped her score. However, she still managed to grab a top-10 finish as she concluded play tied for eighth with a 12-over 156.

Selina Budde just missed out on a top-10 result as well after shooting a 14-over 158 over the 36-hole event. Budde had a stretch of eight consecutive pars during the round helping her to the 13th place finish.

Fourth-year junior Monica Ruiz Pavon had her best round in Hilton Head on Tuesday with an 86. Ruiz Pavon began and ended the day with pars as she finished the tournament in 56th place with a 174.

Megan Rowe rebounded nicely on Tuesday. The third-year sophomore improved her score by 10 strokes to post an 87 in the final round. Overall, she finished in 67th with a score of 184.

Ana Thorne had the drop score for Columbus State after shooting a 88 in round two. She was CSU's third-best finisher overall though, tying for 50th place with a 172.

Junior Hannah Stephenson led the way for Lander with a 17-over-par tournament to finished tied for 20th. Junior Caroline Hardee and sophomore Chloe Hiott both shot 23-over-par and tied for 37th place. Freshman Caitlyn Cash shot 28-over-par and finished tied for 50th place while freshman Ella Nilsson shot 32-over-par and was tied for 59th place.

UNCP Wins Diamondback Intercollegiate

LORIS, S.C. – Freshman Toni Blackwell carded a 17-over-par 161 in two rounds of competition to finish at the top of the individual leaderboard and to help the UNC Pembroke golf team to its first tournament victory of the season at the Mars-Hill-hosted Spring Diamondback Intercollegiate at the Diamondback Golf Club. 
 
Blackwell (+17), who shot a team-best 77 in round two, finished the two-day competition just two strokes ahead of teammate Elizabeth Ritchie (+19), who claimed a runner-up finish and who was competing as an individual. Georgia Page (+21) shot an 8-over-par 80 on the final day of competition which was good enough for a third place finish.
 
Redshirt sophomore Amanda Hamrin (+24) and redshirt sophomore Samantha DeBusk (+24) finished in a tie for fourth place, while freshman Madison Deese (+53) finished in eighth place.
 
The Braves will be back in action on Monday at the Limestone-hosted Low Tide Intercollegiate. The two-day tournament will take place at the Dunes West Golf & River Club in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
