UNCP's Harrison, UNG's Gurley Claim Women's Track & Field Weekly Awards

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week: Quanterra Harrison, UNC Pembroke

Harrison became the first PBC track athlete this season to set an NCAA provisional mark. The sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., ran the 100m hurdles in 14.18, coming in just under the NCAA provisional mark of 14.19. She won the event at the Adidas Trojan Challenge, leading the final by more than a full second. She also finished second in the 400 hurdles at the event with a time of 1:06.12, second-fastest in the PBC this season. Her 100 hurdles time is the third-fastest run in NCAA Division II so far this season.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week: Journey Gurley, North Georgia

Gurley broke her own conference record in the pole vault, becoming the first PBC field athlete to set an NCAA provisional mark in the process. The freshman from Danielsville, Ga., set the conference record at 3.80 on March 6, but shattered it over the weekend with a vault of 3.97 to win at the Life University Spring Break. After clearing the bar at 3.65 and 3.85, she hit the 3.97 on her second attempt, more than a full meter than the second-place finisher. That mark is tied for sixth-highest in NCAA Division II this year. Gurley also finished second in the high jump, setting a UNG school record at 1.52m. She also ran the 100 and 4x100 relays.
