Women’s Track Athlete of the Week: Abigail Kirkland, North Georgia
Kirkland set a new program record as she finished in second place in the 200 at the Susan Rouse Invitational at Southern Wesleyan University. The junior from Milledgeville, Ga., ran a 25.60, finishing .06 out of the lead in a massive field of 48 sprinters. She also finished in fourth in the 400 with a time of 57.63. Her 200 meter time is currently 13th-fastest in NCAA Division II while her 400 is ninth-fastest.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week: Journey Gurley, North Georgia
Gurley set a new Peach Belt Conference record in the pole vault at the Susan Rouse Invitational at Southern Wesleyan University. The freshman from Danielsville, Ga., cleared the bar at 3.80 meters on her second attempt, breaking the old conference mark of 3.75 set back in 2018. She won the event by more than .5 meters and now has the fourth-highest vault in NCAA Division II so far this season.
