AUGUSTA, GA – After an unforgettable inaugural season in 2021, the Peach Belt Conference has released the preseason preview for the 2022 men’s lacrosse season. The University of Montevallo has been selected as the preseason favorite to repeat their championship while the coaches also selected a preseason All-Conference team.
The 2022 season will see the debut of two new programs in the Peach Belt, bringing the league to six teams. Flagler will take the field for the first time in school history while Young Harris returns for the first time since the 2018 season.
Montevallo grabbed all five first-place votes available to them for a maximum 25 points in the coaches poll. Alabama-Huntsville was second with 21 with Lander in third. Young Harris and Flagler were tied for fourth with Shorter rounding out the voting.
Montevallo ran the table in conference play last season with a perfect 6-0 record. The Falcons also captured the first PBC Tournament title and finished with a 10-4 overall mark. UM returns nearly the entire squad with their top eight goal-scorers back and all three keepers. Overall, the Falcons welcome back 10 seniors and nine juniors for 2022.
Alabama-Huntsville finished second in the conference standings and reached the championship game of the inaugural PBC Tournament. The Chargers also bring back most of their team from last year with five of their top seven scorers returning along with both keepers. UAH will have 10 seniors and six juniors for 2022.
The preseason coaches poll is below with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by the preseason All-Conference team. Coaches were not permitted to rank their own team or vote for their own players.

2022 PBC Men’s Lacrosse
Preseason All-Conference Team
Josh Campbell, Alabama-Huntsville
- A senior midfielder from Wellernie, Minn.
- Named PBC All-Conference in 2021
- Was third on the team with 19 goals last season, also had two assists for 21 total points
- Ranked ninth in the PBC in goals per game
- Scored a season-high five goals on nine shots in a win over Lander and was named the PBC Player of the Week on April 12
Krew Conroy, Lander
- A junior midfielder from Kalamazoo, Mich.
- A PBC All-Conference selection last season
- Tied for fourth on the team with 14 goals and was fifth with 18 total points
- Had five multi-goal games including three with an assist in the season-opener against Chowan
- A PBC Presidential Honor Roll Presidential Scholar
Connor Frederick, Montevallo
- A junior midfielder from Queenstown, Md.
- Named PBC All-Conference and to the PBC All-Tournament team
- Was fourth in the PBC with 29 goals scored in 2021; also ninth in the league in assists per game and fifth in points per game
- Had nine multi-goal games and four games with multiple assists
- Scored four goals in the PBC tournament championship game
Silas Herman, Alabama-Huntsville
- A sophomore faceoff specialist from Orono, Minn.
- A 2021 PBC All-Conference selection at specialist
- Led the league with 153 faceoffs won and a .567 faceoff percentage
- Also led the league with 73 ground balls and scored two goals
- Named a PBC Presidential Honor Roll Bronze Scholar
Trevayne Hunter, Montevallo
- A sophomore attacker from Aldergrove, British Columbia
- A PBC All-Conference selection, PBC All-Tournament and named a PBC Player of the Week on Feb. 22
- Was second in the PBC with 38 goals scored last season; also sixth in the league in asssists per game and second in points per game
- Had five games last year with four goals and a five-assist game against Chowan
- A PBC Presidential Honor Roll Bronze Scholar
James Linn, Lander
- A junior defender from Clover, S.C.
- A 2021 PBC All-Conference selection as a defender
- Started in all 11 matches, collecting 26 ground balls and causing nine turnovers and was ranked 10th in the PBC in ground balls per game and caused turnovers per game
- Caused three turnovers with two ground balls in an 11-10 win over North Greenville
- Named to the PBC Team of Academic Distinction and is a PBC Presidential Honor Roll Gold Scholar
Adam Mather, Lander
- A junior attacker from Cincinnati, Ohio
- A PBC All-Conference selection in 2021, he was also named the PBC Player of the Week on March 22
- Led the team with 24 goals and 18 assists for 42 points; ranked fifth in the PBC in goals per game, second in assists per game and fourth in points per game
- Scored eight goals in a one-goal win over Alabama-Huntsville, the second-highest single-game total in the PBC last season; also scored six goals in a win over Emmanuel
- A PBC Presidential Honor Roll Gold Scholar and named to the Team of Academic Distinction
Jackson Neufeld, Montevallo
- A senior midfielder from Winnipeg, Manitoba
- A PBC All-Conference selection, he was fifth on the team in scoring, sixth in assists and sixth in total points
- Scored a goal in 12 of UM’s 14 games last season with six multi-goal games
- Had 28 ground balls and caused 11 turnovers
- A PBC Presidential Honor Roll Gold Scholar who was also named to the PBC Team of Academic Distinction
Anthony Pecoraro, Montevallo
- A senior defender from Boynton Beach, Fla.
- Named PBC All-Conference at Long-Stick Defender in 2021
- Was second in the PBC with 60 ground balls last season and led the conference with 32 caused turnovers
- Caused a season-high seven turnovers in the PBC Championship game and had three goals on the season
- Had three games with seven ground balls
Brody Phillips, Alabama-Huntsville
- A senior attacker from Syracuse, N.Y.
- Was second on the team with 23 goals scored; ranked seventh in the PBC in goals per game
- Led the Peach Belt with 28 assists and was third in the conference in points per game
- A PBC All-Conference selection in 2021
- Had 12 points in a win over Shorter (4g, 8a), the second-highest single-game point total in the PBC last year and the most assists in a game
Thomas Vaesen, Montevallo
- A senior attacker from Victoria, British Columbia
- The 2021 PBC Player of the Year, he was an All-Conference selection and named All-South Region by the USILA
- Led the PBC with 48 goals and 4.86 points per game in 2021, was third in the league in assists per game
- Ranked seventh in NCAA Division II in goals per game and his 12 goals against Chowan was tied for the most in the country in a single game in 2021
- A PBC Presidential Honor Roll Gold Scholar and named to the PBC Team of Academic Distinction
