LOUISVILLE, KY -- Seven Peach Belt Conference men's lacrosse players have been named All-Americans by the USILA. PBC Tournament Champions Flagler led the way with four players asTrace McDonald received third team honors, while Griffin Moore, Ty Scheckenbach and Brendan Watson each named honorable mention. PBC regular-season champions Montevallo had two players named with Alex Egorshin receiving second team honors and Matthew Boas named honorable mention. Lander's Mitchell Festi was also named honorable mention.
Alex Egorshin, the Peach Belt Conference Goalkeeper of the Year, earned his second-consecutive Second Team All-America selections follows a season that saw the Hoover, Ala. native posting a .600 save percentage that ranked first in the conference and fourth among national leaders. Egorshin's 15.88 saves per game were ranked third in all of Div. II while his 11.69 goals against average led the PBC for goalkeepers playing more than 900 minutes.
One of nation's more prolific attackmen, McDonald earned his third All-American distinction. McDonald earned his first third team honor after receiving honorable mention the past two seasons. With 68 points on the season, McDonald was the Saints leader in assists with 38. McDonald, along with
Ben Nyberg and
Will Linko are all tied for the most goals on the team at 30. In the NCAA Division II, McDonald is 13th in assists per game at 2.11.
For the first time in his career, Scheckenbach earned All-American honors. The redshirt sophomore was one of the Saints core starters on a defense that ranked No. 19 in DII in goals allowed per game at 9.28. Within the region, Flagler's defense is eighth. Scheckenbach caused 29 turnovers which is the most for the Saints and found 35 ground balls which is second. Scheckenbach's 29 caused turnovers ranks him 39th in DII in caused turnovers per game at 1.78.
Moore and Watson earned their first All-American distinctions. Earlier this season, Watson was named the PBC Defender of the Year. Leading the team in ground balls, Watson found 37 while causing the second most turnovers on the team with 19. The short stick defender's premier game came in the first round of the PBC Tournament. Against Lander University, Watson caused five turnovers and found four ground balls. Moore finished as the Saints fifth highest goal scorer. Moore scored 24 goals and notched six assists. In the Saints 7-6 overtime win against No. 18 Concordia University Irvine, Moore scored the game winning goal to earn the program's first NCAA tournament win.
Matthew Boas, a USILA Third Team All-Region selection, was named Honorable Mention All-American after posting a total of 78 points on the season to rank 17
th among national leaders and first in the conference. The Nanaimo, B.C., Canada native tallied a total of 53 goals on the season to lead the PBC while adding 25 assists to rank third among conference leaders. Boas also tallied a total of five man-up goals on the season while adding 27 ground balls.
Mitchell Festi was selected to the USILA South Region Third Team earlier this week in addition to his First Team All-Peach Belt Conference honor last month. A junior transfer from Newberry, Festi rounded out his first year as a Bearcat with 26 caused turnovers and 51 ground balls. Both numbers placed Festi firmly inside the top-three in the PBC. He had three games with three caused turnovers (Coker, North Greenville and Belmont Abbey), 10 games with multiple caused turnovers, and for good measure, Festi scored his first career goal at NGU in March and was also named the conference Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 9.
