AUGUSTA, GA -- The University of North Georgia completed a history-making run a the 2024 Peach Belt Conference men's golf tournament on Sunday at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta. The Nighthawks shot 289 to finish 18-under 846 for the tournament, 18 shots ahead of second-place Georgia Southwestern for the first PBC title in program history.

Individually, UNG's Jack Vajda took the title with a final round 72 to finish at 12-under 204 for the tournament.

The 54-hole score posted by the Nighthawks is the lowest total in PBC tournament history, surpassing the 852 by USC Aiken in 2005.

The win is the fifth for the Nighthawks this season, tied for the fourth-most in a single season in PBC history. UNG is the #1-ranked team in the nation and have been all season long in the GCAA polls.

Vajda led wire-to-wire to capture medalist honors. His three-score round of 204 is the second-lowest 54-hole individual score in tournament history, just shy of 16-under of Peter Chung in 2021. Vadja opened his round with three straight birdies before a bogey on the fourth, his first bogey of the tournament. He responded with birdies on five and six and played the front nine in 32. The graduate student from Canton, Ga., stumbled a bit on the back nine as weather conditions worsened with wind and rain moving into the area.

Columbus State's Bernard Meyer shot a two-under 70 to jump four spots and take second place with a three-round 209, seven under par. Meyer had five birdies on his round Sunday, including an impressive 33 on the back nine with no bogeys as the rain began to fall in earnest.

Lander's Linus Jonsson finished in third with an even-par 72 on Sunday including an eagle on the par-five 11th hole. USC Beaufort's Ellis Bright had the round of the day with a four-under 68 to jump seven spots into a tie for fourth. Bright had four birdies and no bogeys on his round. He was tied with USC Aiken's Erik Olin who shot a 69, also with no bogeys on his card.

With the win, North Georgia earns the PBC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Tournament selections will be announced this week.
