COLUMBUS, GA -- Flagler College and Columbus State University both won their semifinal matches on Saturday at the 2024 PBC Men's Tennis Tournament and will meet in the championship match on Sunday at 1:00 pm. Flagler defeated Augusta 4-0 while Columbus State downed North Georgia 4-1.
Columbus State is the six-time PBC defending tournament champion while Flagler is looking for their first tournament crown after winning the PBC regular-season title for the second time in three years. Columbus State and Flagler will meet in the championship match for the third year in a row.
Flagler 4, Augusta 0
The Saints picked up a quick victory at #2 doubles to begin the day as Ilian Borlee and Baptiste Mercier defeated David Perret and Arthur Valette 6-1. Augusta then won at #3 doubles as Henrick Isago and Elie Azoulay beat Flagler's Jacopo Denitto and Max Berner 6-4.
Flagler won the doubles point at #1 as Simon Malis and Philipp Lemken downed Enzo Bordini Garutti and Alexis Bailhache 6-4.
Singles also proved competitive as Flagler took the first point at #1 singles with Mercier over Isago 6-3, 6-4. The #2 singles match was next with Malis beating Bailhache 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. Flagler wrapped up the win at sixth singles with Aly El Rafie beating David Perret 6-2, 6-3.
Columbus State 4, North Georgia 1
The second-seeded CSU Cougars won the doubles point over #3 North Georgia with victories and first and third. At #1, Thomas Cardona and Felix Steen beat UNG's Joaquin Benoit and Robin Eldin 6-1. At the third spot, Andreas Sandrone and Elias Peter beat Christopher Cahour and Tyler Cunningham 6-3.
UNG came back and won the first point in singles as Benoit beat Justin Welz 6-3, 6-0. Columbus was strong through the middle of the lineup, getting wins at 3, 4 and 5 singles.
At #3, Camilo Cano beat Eldin 6-1, 7-6 while Daniel Hammond won at second singles 6-3, 6-3 over Cahour.
Sandrone won at #5 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Castellanos.
