MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State University Department of Athletics is saddened to announce the passing of men's soccer goalkeeper David Magala.
In three seasons with the Lakers, Magala suited up for 24 matches, made 72 saves, pitched five shutouts, and recorded an overall record of 12-4-5. In addition, David conceded only 27 goals and amassed a career goal against average of 1.3 goals a match. Magala also caught notice from the Peach Belt Conference as he is a two-time selection for its Goalkeeper of the Week honor.
Magala, who is a native of Tucker, Ga., was instrumental as the Lakers advanced to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments for the first time in 20 years. David came up big when Coach Petersen needed him too as he stopped both Lenoir Rhyne in 2023 and Converse in 2024 on penalty kicks to advance in the NCAA Tournament.
Off the field, David was studying Criminal Justice and gathered Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Presidential Honor Roll honors last season. He was also an active Sargent in the Georgia Army
National Guard[JR1] . Magala attended Tucker High School where he led his team to a 9-0-1 record as a senior prior to the COVID-19 stoppage. In addition, he led his team to Quarterfinal appearances in the State Championship as a sophomore and as a junior.
Our thoughts and prayers are with David's family, friends, and all who loved him. .
