PUEBLO, COLO -- Augusta University senior Avery Jaynes finished in fifth place and was named an All-American in the 10,000 meters at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday night. He becomes the first Augusta athlete to be named an All-American at the DII championships.
Embry-Riddle's Mikaela Miles and Brooklynn Gould also competed on the opening day of the championships.
Jaynes finished the 10k in 29:55.56, the second time in his career he has run a sub-30 on the track in the 10k. After starting the opening laps near the middle of the 24-runner field, he steadily moved up. He was ninth at 5200 meters but moved up three spots on the next lap to join the lead group. He fought on the last lap with Wingate's Antonin Saint Peyre, who finished in fourth just 0.48 seconds ahead of Jaynes.
West Texas A&M's William Amponsah won the event in 29:29.41. Jaynes will run again in the 5k on Saturday at 10:30 pm.
Miles finished 19th in the long jump, hitting a best of 5.73 on her second attempt. The junior will return for the triple jump, an event she finished in third at the indoor championships, on Saturday at 7:30 pm.
Gould completed the first four events of the heptathlon and is in 10th place with three events left to contest on Friday. The PBC record-holder and All-American was 10th in the 100 hurdles, 12th in the high jump, ninth in the shot put and eighth in the 200m. She is 117 points out of the top eight with the long jump, javelin and 800m to go.
