AUGUSTA, GA -- Three Peach Belt Conference softball players have been named All-Americans by the Division II Conference Commissioners' Association (D2CCA). North Georgia's Carleigh Knowles and Natalie Ray were named first-team All-Americans while teammate Sydnee Reaves was named to the second team.
Knowles adds another trophy to her crowded case with her second All-America honor of her freshman season. The catcher from Hawkinsville, Ga., was also named the NFCA National Freshman of the Year, the PBC Freshman of the Year, the Diamond Sports/NFCA Catcher of the Year and a first-team All-Conference selection. Knowles is hitting .387 on the season and leads the conference in slugging percentage, OPS, RBIs and home runs. She drove in two runs yesterday in UNG's loss to Saginaw Valley State in the opening game of the NCAA national championships.
Ray earns her first All-America honor after being named a first-team All-Conference selection and NFCA All-Region. A junior from Covington, Ga., the designated player leads the team and is second in the PBC with a .414 batting average. She has 15 doubles, 14 home runs and 59 RBIs on the season. She is ranked in the PBC top 10 in 10 different categories.
Reaves earns her first All-America honor. The junior outfielder from Ashland, Ala., was a first-team All-Conference selection, named to the PBC All-Tournament team and named All-Region by the NFCA. The leadoff batter for the Nighthawks, she is hitting .405 on the season with 24 doubles, 11 home runs and 59 RBIs. She leads the team with 24 stolen bases which is tied for second in the conference.
North Georgia will continue play in the NCAA Championships on Saturday when they face Western Washington in an elimination game at 11:00 am in Chattanooga, Tenn.
