Alan Ferguson Named Lander Women’s Tennis Head Coach

GREENWOOD - Lander Athletics Director Brian Reese has announced the hiring of Alan Ferguson as the new head coach of the women's tennis program. Ferguson brings more than three decades of coaching experience across all levels of collegiate tennis, including multiple NCAA Tournament appearances and nationally ranked teams.

"I would like to thank Brian Reese and all the senior athletic staff – Dawn Turner, Jamie Wilson, Heather Pilgram, and Van Taylor – for the opportunity to join the Bearcat family," said Ferguson. "It is an honor to represent the Bearcats and continue the tradition of excellence Lander Athletics is accustomed to. I look forward to working with all the returning athletes and new recruits to help them meet their goals on the court and in the classroom."

Ferguson arrives in Greenwood following an 12-year tenure as head men's and women's tennis coach at Limestone University, where he guided both programs to national rankings, conference championships, and NCAA Tournament appearances. Under his leadership, the women's team claimed three Conference Carolinas regular season titles in 2015, 2017, and 2019, and earned a final national ranking of No. 40 in 2024. The men's team finished the 2025 season ranked No. 34 nationally.

Before Limestone, Ferguson served as an assistant men's tennis coach at Furman University, helping the Paladins to three NCAA Tournament appearances and multiple Southern Conference championships. His previous stops also include the University of Arkansas, where he helped guide the women's team to four consecutive NCAA appearances, and USC Spartanburg (now USC Upstate), where he began his collegiate coaching career and led the program to multiple top-25 national finishes.

Throughout his career, Ferguson has coached numerous All-Americans and NCAA qualifiers in singles and doubles. He was a three-time Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Coach of the Year (2015, 2017, 2019) and was named the Women's Division I Southwest Regional Assistant Coach of the Year in 1999. Most recently, he served on the NCAA Division II Women's Regional Ranking Committee in 2025, recognizing his continued impact and leadership in collegiate women's tennis.

"We're excited to welcome Alan to Lander and the Bearcat family," said Athletics Director Brian Reese. "His proven success at every level of collegiate tennis and his dedication to developing student-athletes both on and off the court make him a perfect fit for our program. We look forward to the impact he'll have on our student-athletes and the continued growth of Lander women's tennis."

Ferguson is a graduate of the University of South Carolina – Spartanburg and an alumnus of the prestigious Nick Bollettieri / Jim Loehr / Arthur Ashe Internship Program. His career reflects a long-standing commitment to the growth of collegiate tennis, and he remains actively involved in the sport through his service on NCAA Division II regional ranking committees.
