Doubleheader Sweep Lifts No. 7 Nighthawks to 12th Straight Regular Season PBC Championship

DAHLONEGA – The No. 7 University of North Georgia (UNG) softball team fired on all cylinders in a pair of 13-0 and 6-0 shutout victories to take the series win over Augusta on Senior Day at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium.

With the doubleheader sweep, the Nighthawks (41-8, 21-5 PBC) have clinched eight conference series victories this season. Paired with the other results around the league, North Georgia has now laid claim to its 12th consecutive Peach Belt Conference regular season championship.

Game One: North Georgia 13, Augusta 0 (5 Inn.)

North Georgia dominated early in the series opener, using a 10-run bottom of the second inning to put the game out of reach for the Jaguars.

The Nighthawks started their stellar offensive day in the bottom of the first. With two outs, Carleigh Knowles sent a solo homer over the left field wall to give UNG their first lead.

Morgan Martin kept the two out rally alive, as she roped an RBI triple to right field to extend the lead 2-0.

Chloe Poss' pair of strikeouts and 1-2-3 inning in the second paved the way for an explosive inning from the North Georgia bats in the bottom frame.

After a Journey Roberts double, Ava Lunsford paid dividends by launching her first home run of the season to left field to double the Nighthawks' lead.

In front of a Senior Day crowd at "The Hill", senior centerfielder Sydnee Reaves decided to follow up Lunsford with a long bomb of her own, sending her league-leading 16th homer of the season out to centerfield to extend the advantage.

North Georgia found another Senior Day highlight, this time from Marycille Brumby. The senior first baseman capped off three-straight base hits with an RBI single to build the lead to six.

Knowles, who was a contributor to the trio of base knocks, took advantage of an error to come around and score the seventh run of the ballgame for the Nighthawks.

With a pair of outs on the board, North Georgia again found some run support in a two-out rally. Roberts, Lunsford and Reaves strung together back-to-back-to-back RBI singles, as the Nighthawks closed the inning with a 12-run lead.

In the third, Martin cushioned the lead with a sacrifice fly to cap off a standout scoring day from the Nighthawks

Poss continued to roll in the circle. The senior pitcher kept the Jaguar bats quiet through four scoreless innings, leading to another senior pitcher in Mallory Forrester to close out the shutout in the top of the fifth.

Poss locked up her PBC-leading 22nd win of the 2026 season while only surrendering one hit and securing three strikeouts.

Brumby highlighted the North Georgia lineup at the plate, going a perfect 3-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Game Two: North Georgia 6, Augusta 0

After a scoreless first two innings, the North Georgia bats caught fire once again. Reaves picked up right where she left off in the opener by sending an RBI double to centerfield to break open the scoreless game.

The two-out rallies from the opening game carried over into game two, as Kaitlyn Johnson and Reaves connected on a pair of RBI singles with two away in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead 3-0.

Johnson and Reaves continued to roll in the sixth. The duo delivered another pair of RBI singles to build the lead to five. Jenna Miles joined the run-scoring single party with one of her own to add a sixth insurance run on the board.

In the top of the seventh, the Jaguars threatened to chip away at the lead, loading the bases for the first time in the series. Caroline Conner stepped up in the circle, forcing a flyout to secure back-to-back shutouts for her team.

Conner posted one of her best outings this year, tossing a complete game shutout for her ninth win of the season.

Johnson also delivered one of her better performances of the 2026 campaign, finishing 3-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Reaves also finished with three hits in game two, as she wrapped up the day with five hits, five RBI and a home run.

First pitch for the series finale is set for 12 p.m.
