PINE MOUNTAIN, GA – The UNC Pembroke women’s golf team had three of their five golfers shoot a 75 or better as they claimed the title at the rain-shortened PBC Championships on Saturday at Callaway Gardens.  The Braves fired a 306 over their 18-holes, finishing five strokes ahead of Montevallo in second place.  Flagler was third, Lander fourth and Armstrong fifth.  The tournament was originally scheduled for 54 holes but reduced to 18 after rain washed out all play on Friday.

In the individual standings, Flagler’s Joanna Yoo won a three-way playoff to claim medalist honors.  Yoo finished in a three-way tie with UNCP’s Ashlii Thompson and Laura Bird, all of whom shot 74.  Yoo won the title with a birdie on the second playoff hole, one of her five birdies on the day.

The women’s title is the second for UNC Pembroke in the last four years.

It was the fourth top 5 finish of the season for Thompson (+3) who fell on the second playoff hole to Flagler's Joanna Yoo, while Bird, a Pembroke native, turned in her second career top 5 finish. Dana Watkins (+4) tallied her first career hole-in-one on the par-3, 170-yard second hole en route to completing the event in a tie for fourth place. Kelly Sumner (+12) and Lizzie Bundy (+14) finished in a tie for 25th and 29th place, respectively.

Montevallo was led by Emily Romkey who shot a five-over 76 on the Lake View course at Callaway Gardens. Morgan Natale and Elaine wood both added 78 for the Falcons, who had their highest finish at the PBC Championships.

For Flagler, Stephanie Tucker finished in ninth place with a 6-over 77. She birdied holes No. 2 and 3 and made par on 10 holes. Linn Emily Weber finished 16th with a 9-over 80.Nicole Keyser tied for 21st place with an 11-over 82 and Marie Santacroce tied for 25th place with a 12-over 83.
