Men’s Track Athlete of the Week: Courtland White, Clayton State
White competed in three events at the GATA Classic at Georgia Southern, helping the Lakers team to a 3-of-8 finish. The sophomore from Rex, Ga., won in the 1500m by just over a second with a personal-best time of 4:06.87 in that race. He finished third of 15 runners in the 800m with a time of 1:57.83, missing first by less than a second. He also ran the second leg in the 4x400 relay as the squad finished first with a time of 3:18.93, winning by just under 10 seconds. It was also the fastest 400 relay time so far this season in the Peach Belt.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week: Justin Johnson, Clayton State
Johnson won the long jump at the GATA Classic at Georgia Southern with a distance of 6.66 meters. The junior from Stone Mountain, Ga., fouled on his first two attempts and hit 6.36m on his third, sitting in third place as he toed the line for his final attempt. His landing moved him into first, finishing .26m ahead of his nearest competitor. He also finished 10th in the 100 meter dash and was a part of the 4x100 relay team that finished second, helping the Lakers to a third-place finish in the eight-team field.
