Columbus State's Taylor, Blackmon Named Track & Field Athletes of the Week

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week: Savian Taylor, Columbus State

Taylor had two top-10 finishes at the Montevallo Falcon Classic, including cross the line first in the 800-meter run. The freshman clocked a 1:53.30 in the event to set a new quickest time in the PBC this season. It was just two seconds off from an NCAA provisional time. Taylor also had sixth-place showing in the 400-meter dash as he ran a 50.13. It was the fourth-best time in the conference in 2021.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week: Nate Blackmon, Columbus State

Blackmon won the long jump at the Montevallo Classic over the weekend. The senior from Lawrenceville, Ga., sailed 7.04 meters on his fifth attempt, clearing teammate Jackson Fulks to win the event by .05 with 19 competitors in the field. An All-Conference long jumper in 2018 and 2019, Blackmon’s mark is the longest in the Peach Belt this season and just .21 off the NCAA provisional distance.
