Augusta's Brickey, Clayton State's Johnson Named Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week: Kai Brickey, Augusta

Brickey won both the 800 and the 1,500 at the massive Susan Rouse Invitational at Southern Wesleyan University. The junior from Suwanee, Ga., beat 65 other runners in the 800, finishing in 1:56.83, the seventh-fastest time in NCAA Division II this season. He then beat 55 runners to win the 1,500 with a time of 4:01.29, eighth-fastest in the nation. The meet featured more than 20 teams and clubs from Divsions I and II.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week: Justin Johnson, Clayton State

Johnson set a school record in the long jump at the Savannah State Eye Opener. The junior from Stone Mountain, Ga., soared 6.90 meters on his fifth attempt, finishing third overall in the event that featured 13 competitors. He was .01 meters out of second and .09 from first. His distance is the eighth-longest in NCAA Division II so far this season. He also ran on the 4x100 relay team that finished in fourth with a time of 44.05.
