Columbus State Women's Tennis Advances to PBC Finals

The Lady Cougars beat Georgia College 4-0 in the PBC Tournament semifinals.

COLUMBUS - The No. 10 Columbus State University women's tennis team defeated Georgia College 4-0 in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinals on Wednesday afternoon. The match was held at the John W. Walden Tennis Complex in Columbus.

Columbus State won the first doubles match by default, then the Lady Cougars went 1-1 to earn the first point of the afternoon. The duo of Beatriz Lopez and Candice Paya defeated Emilia Richter and Emma Fleming 7-5 at first doubles, while Valentina Abrile and Sara Ramirez Goncalves lost a close match to Jordan Bowie and Ashton Morrison 6-4 in the second spot.

Going into singles play, the Lady Cougars only needed to win two to advance to the finals since sixth singles was a win by default. Luise Sachs defeated Emma Fleming 6-3, 6-2 playing in third singles, while Valentina Abrile took down Jordan Bowie 7-5, 6-0 at fourth singles to clinch the match. Lopez, Paya and Bigotti's were all leading in their matches when play was called.

Columbus State will play No. 14 Flagler College for the PBC Championship on Saturday, May 1 at the John W. Walden Tennis Center in Columbus, starting at 1 p.m. The Lady Cougars will be looking to win their fourth straight tournament title.
