AUGUSTA, GA – The Peach Belt Conference has released the bracket for the 2021 baseball tournament. The top four teams in the regular-season standings advance to tournament play, which will be conducted over the next two weekends, May 7-9 for the semifinals and 14-16 for the championship. Each round will be a best 2-of-3 series with the #1 seed hosting #4 and #2 hosting #3 on the first weekend. The highest remaining seed will host the two remaining teams for the second weekend.
For the first time in program history, UNC Pembroke is the #1 seed for the Peach Belt Tournament. The Braves, who finished their regular-season on Sunday, also won their first PBC regular-season championship with a 25-8 record in conference play, 29-11 overall. UNCP is the only PBC team ranked in the current USBWA Top 25 at #24. The Braves will host #4 seed Columbus State in the semifinals series.
The Cougars will return to Pembroke after finishing a three-game set today. The Cougars finished 19-13 in conference play, 25-14 overall. A four-time PBC Tournament champion, Columbus State will be seeking their first title since 2016.
North Georgia is the #2 seed for the PBC Tournament. The Nighthawks have now been a 1 or 2 seed in four of the last six PBC tournaments and enter the 2021 event with a 28-12 overall record, 22-11 in PBC play and winners of their last four in a row. North Georgia will host a very familiar opponent as local rival Young Harris will visit Dahlonega next weekend.
Young Harris is the #3 seed and defending tournament champion after winning their first title in 2019 (the 2020 event was cancelled due to the pandemic). Young Harris enters with their highest PBC tournament seed in program history after winning 20 conference games for the first time with a 20-13 league mark.
Specific game times and dates for the opening weekend series will be announced by the conference office on Monday.
