Bobcat Men’s Basketball Adds Quartet for 2021-22

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Men’s Basketball team and head coach Mark Gainous has added four new members to Bobcat Nation this season. The Bobcats added a trio of freshmen and one Division II transfer.

“We are extremely excited about our 2021 class,” said Gainous. “All of these guys fit Georgia College academically and our team athletically. All of these young men have the character, competitiveness and work ethic that we want in our program. I believe we have a lot of momentum going into the 2021-22 season after finishing second in the PBC (Peach Belt Conference) and ranked in the NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) Top-25 last year. I believe these student-athletes will help us sustain our recent success both on and off the court.”

Adrian Cohen (Woodstock) joins the Bobcats with junior status after spending time at Division II Tusculum University. Over his three seasons, he saw action in 66 contests, netting a career-best 22 points against the University of North Georgia in the 2019-20 campaign. He played his high school ball at Etowah High for John Daseigner, picking up All-Region honors and leading his squad to back-to-back Region Titles. Cohen is majoring in Information Technology.
Coach Gainous says: “Adrian is a four-year transfer from Tusculum and has two seasons left on the court. I believe he will have the chance to be one of the best defensive players on our team. Adrian has good size, length and will be able to play and defend multiple positions. His experience playing at the Division II level the previous three seasons will be invaluable.”

Ian Davis (Lawrenceville) is a freshman from Discovery High, where he played for head coach Cory Cason. An All-County and All-Region selection, he was also chosen to the All-County Academic Team. Davis is majoring in Business.
Coach Gainous says: “He has good length, handles the ball well, and shoots the three at a high clip. Ian attended our elite camp the summer going into his junior season and we have tracked him ever since. I believe he can play multiple positions and has really nice upside.”

Zyair Greene (Lithonia) brings All-State honors from Miller Grove High, where he played for head coach Rasul Chester. A member of the 1,000-point club for the Wolverines, Greene was All-Metro Honorable Mention, Region Player of the Year and Best DeKalb Overall Player. He is majoring in Psychology.
Coach Gainous says: “He has really good size and strength for a shooting guard in the PBC. We were able to watch Zyair multiple times last season and every time we saw him he shot the ball extremely well. Shooting is so important in today’s game and we feel he has the chance to be special.”

Local product Jamal Taylor (Sparta) makes his way down Route 22 from Hancock Central High, where he played for Ricky Chatman. A two-time Region Player of the Year, Taylor was the State Championship MVP and reached the 1,500-point plateau.
Coach Gainous says: “He won the A Public State Championship as a junior and played for it again as a senior. I believe Jamal is one of the quickest point guards we have had here at GC since Shejdie Childs (2007). Jamal is a willing passer, can shoot the three, and has a knack of finishing over bigger defenders inside.”

The Bobcat coaching staff can’t wait to add these four to the mix of 11 returners from last year’s No. 2-seed in the PBC Tournament.
