Whiteman led Flagler to a sixth-place finish at the Florida State Open on Friday. The sophomore from Bulls, New Zealand, ran the 5k course in 18:14.6 and was the fifth Division II runner to cross the line in a field that included host Florida State, LSU, Miami, South Florida and Jacksonville State. The field featured 30 teams in all and 280 runners. Whiteman finished 24th overall with an average mile of 5:52.3. Her 5k time is the second-fastest run in the Peach Belt so far this season.
