Saints advance to their fourth consecutive National Championship

WINGATE, N.C. - Abby Misch led the Flagler College women's cross country team to their fourth consecutive NCAA DII National Championship appearance after the team finished third overall at the NCAA DII Southeast Regional, hosted by Wingate University this morning.

The Saints competed in a pool of 174 runners. The top-25 finishers were given all-region honors, the Saints had four runners earn this honor. With a total score of 88, the Saints were 26 points ahead of the fourth place finishers, Anderson University (S.C.) and trailed second place, Catawba College, by 43 points. Collectively, the Saints average finish time for their 6k was 22:43.

The Saints will head to Kenosha, WI on Nov. 22nd to race at the Wayne E Dannehl National Cross Country Course for the NCAA championship.

Setting a new personal best in highest finish at the Southeast Regional, Misch cracked the top-10 for the first time in her career, placing eighth in 22:02.6. This is the second time in her career that Misch earned all-region.

After losing crucial contributors from last year, the 2025 freshman picked up right where they left off. Three freshman in Sophia Poling, Sophie May and Marie Meyer-Piton made the journey to the race with two landing in the top-25. Poling set a new personal record with a 22:32.1 finish which earned her 12th overall. Meyer-Piton just cracked the top-25, placing 24th in a personal best, 23:05.2. May placed 41st in 23:49.7.

Peach Belt Conference individual champion, Chloe Smith, had a career high finish, placing 15th overall and third for the Saints in 22:35.6. In her Southeast Regional debut, Clemence Treguer placed 29th overall in 23:22.7.

Peach Belt Conference Runner of the Year Madison Thomas qualified for the NCAA National Championship after leading the Augusta women's cross country team to a fifth-place finish. Thomas covered the 6K course in 22:32.62 and was one of the top two individual runners not on a qualifying team, earning an individual berth to the national championship field.

Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year Carly Fuel finished the course in 22nd place, and cemented herself in the Lander record books as the first Bearcat since 1999 to be named to the All-Southeast Region team. 

Other PBC teams in action were GCSU in 8th, North Georgia in 10th, Lander in 14th, USCA in 18th and Columbus State in 20th.
