AUGUSTA, GA – The Peach Belt Conference released the 2022 women’s basketball tournament bracket on Saturday following the conclusion of the regular season. The top eight teams in the league standings advance to tournament play, which will begin on Wednesday, March 2, with four quarterfinals games hosted by the higher seeds. The winners of those four games will advance to the semifinals and finals, hosted by the highest remaining seed, on Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6.
Game times for Tuesday’s quarterfinals will be released by the league office on Monday morning. Information on tickets, brackets, schedules and more can be found on the women’s basketball tournament website here.
North Georgia won their third PBC regular-season championship in the last five years on Saturday with their win over USC Aiken in the finale. The Nighthawks will be looking for their fourth PBC Tournament title in the last five years and the defense of their 2021 crown as the #1 seed this week.
Lander is the #2 seed for the PBC Tournament and extends their streak of earning a 1 or 2 seed to eight years in a row. Winners of the PBC regular season for the last two years, the Bearcats won the 2020 PBC Tournament and have played in the championship game five times in the last six years with two victories.
Georgia Southwestern finished their regular-season play on Wednesday, putting a cap on their most successful campaign as a member of the NCAA. The Hurricanes are the #3 seed, their highest seed in program history with a 22-5 overall record, their most DII wins ever. GSW makes their second straight PBC Tournament appearance and will host a tournament game for the first time in program history.
Columbus State locked up the #4 seed on Saturday with a road win at Georgia College to avoid a three-way tiebreak. The Cougars finish the regular season with wins in four of their final five games and will host a quarterfinal game for the third time in the last five years.
Augusta is the #5 seed and will play at Columbus State on Tuesday. The Jaguars finished in a tie with Clayton State at 8-10 in conference play and thanks to Kiera Howard’s two free throws with two seconds left on Saturday, completed the season sweep of the Lakers with the 61-60 win. Clayton State will be the #6 seed and play at Georgia Southwestern on Tuesday.
Young Harris takes the #8 seed after finishing in a tie with Georgia College at 5-13. The two teams split their regular-season meetings and were both swept by North Georgia, Lander and Georgia Southwestern. YHC breaks the tie thanks to their win over Columbus State, while GC was swept by the Cougars with their loss to CSU on Saturday.
